About Me

Joe is a five-year certified Special Education and English teacher at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore City Schools. He currently performs Special Education Case Management duties and has taught both self-contained and general education English classes.

He has been active in providing support for students beyond the classroom starting the first Boys Soccer Team at Dunbar and coaching the Dunbar Poet Chess Club for the past four years. In the Spring of 2015, the Poet Chess Club placed 14th at the National Scholastic Chess Tournament in the Under-800 Rated section - the first time Dunbar has ever sent a team to a national tournament - and won the MCA State Championship in the Under-1000 Rated section.

Joe has also developed high school English curriculum for Baltimore City Public Schools and provided professional development to both school-based and systemic colleagues. Joe earned his MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2010 and his BA from Loyola College (now University) in 2007. Outside of the school system, he is the Secretary of the Towson Manor Village Community Association and is a strong advocate for his community with a particular focus on environmental responsibility in local politics.
